About coordinate plane graph paper
A coordinate plane is a grid with two number lines crossing at the origin. The horizontal line is the x-axis and the vertical line is the y-axis. Every point has a pair of coordinates that says how far it is along each axis, which makes the plane the basic tool for graphing equations, transformations and data.
Four-quadrant paper has the origin in the middle, so you can plot negative values as well as positive ones. First-quadrant paper puts the origin in the bottom-left corner and uses the whole page for positive values, which suits early lessons, statistics and most real-world data.
The axes here are drawn with arrowheads and numbered at every heavier line, so the paper is ready to use as soon as it prints. If you want a plain grid without numbers, use the standard graph paper generator instead.
What you can use it for
- Plotting ordered pairs and graphing linear equations in class
- Reflections, rotations and translations in geometry
- Comparing several small graphs on one sheet with two or four per page
- Science and statistics homework where only positive values are needed
- Quick sketches of functions during exams revision
The options explained
- Graphs per page. One large graph, two for comparing functions, or four for short exercises and quizzes.
- Axes. Four quadrants with the origin at the centre, or first quadrant with the origin at the bottom-left.
- Square size and heavier line. The numbers on the axes follow the heavier lines, so a heavy line every 5 squares labels 5, 10, 15 and so on.
- Number the axes. Turn the numbers off if students should write their own scale.
- Outer border. A thin frame around each graph helps when several share a page.
Printing tips
- Choose larger squares for younger students. The Large squares preset has 1 cm squares with numbers every two squares.
- For a worksheet, add the Name and date line from the Extras group.
- Four graphs per page uses 3.5 mm squares by default, which is small for pencils. Raise the square size to fit fewer, bigger graphs.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between four quadrant and first quadrant paper?
Four-quadrant paper has the origin in the centre and covers positive and negative x and y values. First-quadrant paper keeps only the positive values, with the origin at the bottom-left.
Are the axes numbered?
Yes, by default. Numbers appear at each heavier line. You can turn them off in the Grid group.
Can I print more than one graph on a page?
Yes. Choose Two graphs or Four graphs in the Layout group.
What size should I choose for middle school?
A 5 mm or 1 cm square works well. Use 1 cm squares for younger students who are learning to plot points.
