Millimetre paper has a line every millimetre, a stronger line every five millimetres and the darkest line every centimetre. It is used where measurements matter: scientific plots, engineering sketches, technical drawings and any chart that will be read to a fraction of a millimetre.
A grid this dense depends on a good print. Use your printer's high-quality setting, print at 100% and avoid thick paper that blurs fine lines. The lines here are 0.15 pt thick, which prints crisply on a laser printer.
Good for
- Plotting experimental data with error bars
- Technical drawings to scale
- Calibration and measurement templates
- Stress-strain and similar engineering curves
Printing tips
- Print a test page and check a 100 mm span with a ruler.
- Photocopy only if the copier reproduces thin lines; otherwise reprint.

Frequently asked questions
How many millimetre squares are on a page?
On A4 with 10 mm margins there are 190 by 277 squares. The heavy line every 10 squares makes them countable.
Is millimetre paper accurate?
The PDF is dimensionally exact. Your printer may add a small error, so check with a ruler.
What is the best line colour?
Light blue or green. Dark lines make the grid too busy.
